People with hypopituitarism have only few treatment options. Thanks to a new study at Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer Research, scientists are getting closer to develop treatment for people with hypopituitarism, a disease which is linked to dwarfism and premature aging. In this study, they grew pituitary tissue from induced pluripotent stem cells, and transplanted this tissue into rats with hypopituitarism. The transplanted tissue successfully produced hormones which are crucial for bone and tissue growth, as well as managing stress response and reproductive functions.
